Gambling and casinos are not my favourite subjects nor my field of expertise but even I know you can’t beat casinos and a film about trying to doesn’t seem promising. But we like Lahti so here we sit, watching it.
Joe (Palminteri) is a gambler and skilful cheater. He has a son (Tom Guiry) who has been in a home for children with Down’s Syndrome but who is now twenty-one and Joe must take him home. The kid is violent and foul-mouthed and nothing but trouble. But Joe’s partner Janice (Lahti) likes the kid and thinks they should keep him with them. Joe is desperate to get him into a new home.
The gambling and casino cheating are boring. The family drama is gripping and deals with an important subject. So half and half. I don’t like one half, I like the other half. Lahti is always good. The whole cast is good.
2 ½ * of 5 (Hal gives it 4)
