OK, another teacher movie. Based on a true story.
Stacey Bess (Van Camp) has always wanted to be a teacher. Her first job is teaching years one to six for homeless kids in Utah. ‘Babysitting kids on their way to juvie’ is how her predecessor describes it. Stacey is in for a shock. The classroom is in an old wreck of a warehouse. Trains roar by, shaking everything not nailed down. There are rats. The kids are sullen and streetwise, the parents are hostile. There are no books or desks. After one day she’s ready to quit.
It’s Hallmark. Of course it’s sugar-coated, too good to be true (especially Treat Williams as school administrator who is a very long way from dancing on the table singling ‘I’ve Got Life’) and predictable.
But you know, teaching really is cool.
