Spring

18 February 2019

Spring 2014
  • Director: Justin Benson and Aaron Morehead
  • Based on the book: no
  • Cast: Lou Taylor Pucci, Nadia Hilker, Francesco Carnelutti
  • Personal “oh yeah him/her” reaction, i.e. have seen this actor in:
  • None of them
  • Why? It sounded interesting
  • Seen: 15 February 2019

Evan’s (Pucci) mother dies of cancer in their home shortly after his father has died of a heart attack. He gets into a barroom brawl. He’s fired. He’s alone. He’s in trouble with the police. His friends advise him to leave. He flies to Italy and gets work in an olive orchard.
He meets Louise (Hilker), a student of evolutionary genetics but he’s more interested in her hotness because she is hot. And flirtatious and mysterious.
They talk a lot. Is this a new Before Sunrise? I thought it was supposed to be a scary movie.
Oh. Maybe it is. It seems Louise is a monster in disguise. She has to inject herself so her monster self doesn’t emerge.
This beautiful Italian postcard movie has a very creepy twist.
A love story with complications, an intelligent monster film, beautifully done. Just a bit too odd, a little bit off, for a 5* rating. But 3*? 4*? Something like that. Hal says it’s a 4 so let’s go with that. No, not quite.

3 ½ * of 5
