       If anyone can do justice to the role other than Michael Caine, it’s Jude Law.

       This Alfie has moved to New York and is flashy and very uptown. The women aren’t quite the doormats that they were in the first film, which is a sign of the times.

       Some people hate remakes on principle and pan them automatically. I’m not one of them. Give it a fair chance, I say.

       This remake deserves it. It updates well. Law more than fulfils expectations and Tomei and Sarandon are also assets. This Alfie is as charming and pathetic as the first one. It’s a good film.
