A big spooky isolated manor house, a mother (Kidman) who’s a religious fanatic and possibly insane, a husband (Eccleston) who is possibly dead, a little boy (Bentley) who is terrified, his feisty older sister (Mann) who sees things, three mysterious servants (Flanagan, Sykes and Cassidy) who show up out of the fog and know a lot more than they’re letting on, mysterious noises from upstairs.

Of course, it’s scary. It’s low-key, slow-moving, thoughtful. And scary. And sad. Mostly sad.
