The Molly Maguires were a secret group of
Irish-American coal miners in the 19th century. In the film Sean
Connery is one of them and it opens with him and others blowing up a mine.
Richard Harris plays a detective who infiltrates the miners and the Mollies.
It is slow, verging on boring, and there
is an unnecessary romance side story, but it portrays an important chapter in
American labour history, so it’s worth seeing.
