Trond (Skarsgård) has lived in Sweden for 42 years but moves back to
Norway when his wife dies in a car crash. He wants only to live a quiet life in
his cottage in the forest with an occasional cup of coffee with the villagers. But
a meeting with a neighbour brings back memories of the summer when he was
fifteen. He and his friend go out stealing horses, which simply means hopping
on grazing horses and taking a joy ride. But what Trond remembers most is the
tragedy and passion.
It's a slow film with many facial close-ups and an intimacy with the rugged Norwegian nature. It’s a strong portrait of Trond at fifteen (Ranes) and Trond in his seventies, equally unable to understand life.
