             This interesting based-on-a-true-story film about a battalion of American black women in WWII is sadly not very good. The acting is hammy, the characters shallow, the dialog stilted, the story sentimental. Even the racism seems stereotypical rather than offensive.

            With that said it may surprise you to know that I like it. For some reason it’s possible to look through all the above and see the substance of the history it’s based on.
