A child dies. The parents grieve. Von Trier is Von Trier. Some love this, some hate it. I’m just bored by it. A pity. I usually like Von Trier.

A crazy psychologist (Lithgow) becomes even crazier and dangerous. This is like a bad B-film from the 50s and even worse, I think that’s the point.

Stravinsky’s music is interesting, Mads Mikkelsen is a very good actor, and great dramatic love stories are boring. Stylish but tedious.

New Wave music, late 70s, France. Not many women are involved in the creative side. Ana (Jodorowsky) is. We follow her through one day in her flat as she composes electronic music, meets her manager, a guy with a drum machine, a friend and a new singer Clara (Luciani), has a party, is rejected by a famous music producer, and continues composing.

A must for techno freaks and enjoyable for the rest of us. I like the music.

This interesting based-on-a-true-story film about a battalion of American black women in WWII is sadly not very good. The acting is hammy, the characters shallow, the dialog stilted, the story sentimental. Even the racism seems stereotypical rather than offensive.

With that said it may surprise you to know that I like it. For some reason it’s possible to look through all the above and see the substance of the history it’s based on.

I don’t remember the story at all. Humans invading another planet. Beautiful creatures.

Boring. Pretty but yawn. Fast forward. It’s just a bunch of clichés with blue avatars. I have another one in the series, something about water, but I don’t think I have the patience to watch it.

Pete (Brody) a psychologist, and his wife have lost their daughter. Pete gradually realizes that the patients he’s now seeing are all dead, and they all died on the same day, in his home town. He goes back to solve the mystery and rid himself of the ghosts.

Brody is the master of the tortured suffering soul and he carries this off admirably as always. It’s just a ghost story but clever, atmospheric, gloomy and mysterious.

One of the better psychological thrillers I’ve seen lately.

For some reason I thought this film took place in Australia. Alas, it’s about wine production in California, which interests me not at all. But Alan Rickman is in it.

On the DVD box it says if you liked Sideways you’d like this. I didn’t like Sideways, so…

I don’t like this one either. It’s trite and uninteresting. Its only asset is Rickman and he gets the *.

  • Why? Emily Blunt, good reviews
  • Seen: 8 April 2025

Kate Macer (Blunt) is an FBI agent, recruited into a US task force to bring down a powerful and vicious Mexican drug cartel leader. She finds herself surrounded by a gang of obnoxious macho tough guys. She doesn’t trust any of them and the whole operation is fishy from the start.

There’s action and violence enough for anybody which makes it boring. It’s full of stereotypes. I don’t like films like this.

Blunt and Kaluuya as her partner Reggie are sorely wasted here.

It’s not the film that Craig and Weisz will be remembered for but it’s kind of scary and creepy and they do a fine job in their roles.

A comet is going to crash into Earth in six months. Extinction is certain, if we don’t deflect, which would be possible.

The film is classified as a satirical comedy. The funny part is that that nobody believes or cares. Ha ha.

So obviously it’s all about today’s reality and the environmental catastrophe that is going to destroy everything if we don’t take immediate and extreme action. And we don’t care. Some of us don’t believe it. We elect Trump, we consume and consume and consume. We poison our planet.

So funny isn’t the first word that comes to mind. But it is kind of…funny. The satire is so bitingly realistic that it hurts. The actors are superb,

            Depressing but oh, so brilliant.

Before the age of 16 everyone is an ugly. At the age of 16 everyone is operated on to become a Pretty. Tally (King) is 15. Her BFF Peris (Stokes) turns 16 and becomes a Pretty and no longer wants to have anything to do with her. She comes in contact with rebels.

Many viewers mention liking the book better. I haven’t read it so I can only judge the film. If you’re about 12 or 13 you might like it. My 13-year-old self kind of likes it, even though it’s contrived and simple-minded. But only kind of. It’s been a very long time since I was 13. But David (Powers) is awfully cute and the visuals are strong.

It’s only because of the cast that I’m even watching this. Wes Anderson is not my fave. This one received top ratings. That’s no guarantee.

My main problem with Anderson is that he’s not as weird and quirky as he thinks he is. I find his humour pretentious. I have lost friends over this attitude, but then they probably weren’t such good friends, right?

OK, I’ll stop babbling and watch the film.

            1. I don’t like narrated stories. 2. What’s the point of this film? 3. What a waste of good actors. 4. This is just silly. 5. This is boring. 6. Almost everybody disagrees with me.

Never mind. I like the purple uniforms. They themselves are worth
