Burnsworth, Lancashire, 1970’s. John
(Langridge), a disgruntled teen-ager, discovers Northern soul music and becomes
friends with Matt (Whitehouse). They plan to go to America to buy records. Then
they want to start a soul club. Then they get involved with drugs and violence.
Their factory jobs drag them down. Their friendship stumbles.
I was expecting another Commitments.
It could have been, but it just didn’t lift. The story was thin, the characters
were flat and hammy (can those two go together in a description?) and I couldn’t
care less what happens to them.
Another disappointment. The music is OK
though.
