Junior but ambitious and sharp-witted reporter Jenny Lerner (Leoni) stumbles over an FBI and presidential cover-up about a comet heading for Earth. Prognosis: extinction of the human race. It becomes public and the mission Messiah starts: to build nuclear devices in space to crash into the comet and smash it to bits.

Isn’t it a bit risky to call the mission Messiah? We haven’t had much help from messiahs so far…

Not a bad sci film. It picks up in the second half and deserves its cult status.
